Volcanic eruption in La Palma
On 19 September the island of La Palma wrote new pages of its history. During the morning a series of earthquakes occurred, which led to the volcanic eruption at Cumbre Vieja.
Since the last one on the beautiful island (Teneguía volcano) in 1971, we could only remember another precedent 10 years ago on El Hierro, south of La Restinga.
It is undoubtedly a historic event that we are part of and which, thanks to the Canarian mass media, we have been able to witness in its entirety over the last few days.
This Strombolian type eruption has left in its wake multiple damages to plantations, natural spaces and houses of palmeros who have lost everything under the lava. Fortunately, no personal injuries have been reported.
It is said that the brotherhood of the Canary Islanders is incomparable and a good example of this is the thousands of voluntary contributions made by the islanders to help the inhabitants of La Palma. Mass movements of donations of clothes, household goods, food and supplies have been promoted for all those who have suffered the ravages of the volcano, as well as multiple initiatives to raise funds through social networks and associations.
Without a doubt, the 8 islands are one!
In addition, many Canarian banana plantations are being affected (even buried under the magma), so now more than ever it is important to support local commerce: to consume Canarian products from our artisans and farmers, from Canarian tourism companies and other small sectors that form the basis of the economy of the islands. We invite you to support in this way so that all those who are having a hard time in these difficult times due to Covid-19 and the volcanic eruption, can get back on their feet with everyone's collaboration.
Finally, from LCT Europe we join in the signs of hope and support to our friends on la Isla Bonita and we wish them that everything will be over soon so that they can enjoy the wonders of La Palma.
We are sure that things will be back to normal soon!
