Carnivals in Lanzarote 2025!

Lanzarote's most awaited celebration is just around the corner!

The Lanzarote Carnival has some of the island's own characteristics due to its strong roots in local customs. Among them are the masks, the ‘murgas’ (satirical musical groups) and the marching ‘comparsas’.

Lanzarote offers a vibrant calendar of events during the months of February and March 2025, but special mention should be made of its Carnival celebrations which will take place mainly in March in various municipalities of the island. Here is a selection of the most outstanding events:

Arrecife Carnival (21 February - 9 March): The capital of Lanzarote fills with colour and joy with the Carnival, whose theme this year is ‘Disney World’. Main events include the opening proclamation on 21 February, the Drag Queen Gala on 27 February, the Carnaval Porteño on 1 March and the Gran Desfile de Carrozas on 3 March. The festivities conclude with the traditional Burial of the Sardine on 5th March.

Puerto del Carmen Carnival (6 - 9 March): Under the allegory ‘Alice in Wonderland’, Puerto del Carmen celebrates its carnival with various activities. The Parade of Floats will take place on the 8th of March through the main streets of the town.

Playa Blanca Carnival (27th - 30th March): Playa Blanca closes the island's carnival celebrations with the theme ‘México lindo y querido’. The Parade of Floats is scheduled for the 29th of March, followed by various festive activities.

Very soon, this eye-catching celebration will begin on the island; and we hope to document it very soon here at LCT Europe so that you don't miss a single detail of these festivities!

On the other hand, if you prefer to see a much more special celebration on the island, we recommend going to Teguise to see the traditional ‘Diabletes de Teguise’, one of the oldest and most peculiar manifestations of carnival on the island.

When and where to see the ‘Diabletes’?

The ‘Diabletes de Teguise’ usually appear in different events throughout the year, although their most awaited moment is during Carnival (14th March) and the local festivities of the Villa de Teguise. They can also be seen on Three Kings Day and other special celebrations, trotting through the streets with their characteristic trot as they frighten and amuse onlookers.

If you are in Lanzarote at this time of year, don't miss the opportunity to witness this unique spectacle, which is a real journey back in time to the cultural roots of the island.

Let yourself be surprised by the Diabletes de Teguise and live an unforgettable experience in the heart of Lanzarote!
